Hello everyone,,
I’m looking for some advice on replacing Windows Media Center with Kodi for my parents. For some backstory I built them a HTPC running Windows Media Center around 10 years ago, which they love.
Obviously Windows Media Center is long since discontinued, however even today still works well as a DVR with the exception of having to run a script to manually download guide data OTA, as Microsoft no longer provide it.
WMC integrated with Plex and TotalMedia Theatre to play both HD-DVD and Blu-ray. The issue they have now is TotalMedia Theatre has been discontinued and won’t newer play Blu-rays, so as it stands ovo.fyi/xvideos/ ovo.fyi/xnxx/ ovo.fyi/chaturbate/ they have no way of playing Blu-rays. Most of the HD-DVD’s I’ve since ripped so that’s not an issue.
I’ve always been a fan of Kodi since the XBMC days on the Xbox Classic, it seems like I could do everything my parents want from within Kodi now.
With AnyDVD HD running in the background their Blu-rays seem to play great in Kodi without issue, in addition the Plex plugin for Kodi is really nice! Result.
Where I’m not really sure is live TV, it’s not something I can really mess about with for days and have their favourite programs miss recording.
As it stands now they have a quad DVB-T2 tuner, I guess what I’m asking is which backend works best / and has the most user friendly front end, from what I gather this varies on Kodi. Ideally EPG data would be downloaded over the air, unless the backend can download it for free.
Has anyone got any experience with live TV on Kodi? I was thinking of having ago with MediaPortal TV-Server.
